Hauling our stuff across the USA: The Big Move

We picked up our truck on Monday and it was HUGE!
Brent started loading by himself, working hard. In the early evening some men from our ward came and helped Brent and they got everything in and finished that night!
We slept the night at our next-door neighbors as he was very eager to host us and we had absolutely nothing in our house. Good thing the kids were in Utah, having fun with cousins! Thanks to my mom for taking them home from Texas with her and for Tammy also helping to watch them!

The next day, Tuesday, we went on a date to our favorite Mexican restaurant by our house to use a gift card that our friends had given us. Then Brent Brent rushed off to teach his very last class at UNT.
I finished last minute things and the sister missionaries came to help me clean windows and weed the yard while Brent was teaching. I think the worst part about moving is seeing your house empty like this. It just feels so weird and wrong.

This is how I felt about leaving.
Brent then hooked our car up on the dolly behind the truck all by himself which was a little scary but we did a test drive and it seemed to stay on right! Yikes, this whole thing was so stressful. We drove out of our neighborhood around 7 pm. The truck was so huge that we could hardly get out of our neighborhood with narrow streets where cars park on both sides.
We were trying to make it to Amarillo that night but the truck couldn't go very fast (55mph) and we got a late start, so we drove for a few hours and then stopped for the night somewhere in west Texas.

The next day, Wednesday, we drove and drove and drove! We stopped for Chick-Fil-A which made me happy.
The worst part about driving the huge truck was that since we had the car dolly on the back we couldn't back up. So we couldn't ever get ourselves into a situation where we had to back-up (no wrong turns, no small parking lots). It was hard to find gas stations where we could fill up easily. It was stressful driving for Brent who's never driven a truck. We drove until about 1am when we pulled over in Green River UT to sleep for a couple hours. We woke up and then kept driving to make it to my parent's house around 6:30 am!

Coen's reaction to seeing us was funny. He stopped in his tracks and hid behind my dad. Then he came over and gave me a strange leaning hug but wouldn't let go forever. I sure missed these babies!
After Brent and I crashed for a while, my parents took me and the kids to the zoo. It was fun because Coen is so crazy about animals right now.
These gorillas were cracking me up so bad! They brought in a male that was supposed to mate with the female here at the zoo. But neither one of them were interested. Here is the male laying on the ground with his feet on the wall, crossing his arms, completely making a statement. Then in the far left corner of the picture is the female, sitting against the wall just eating. Totally acting like teenagers at a church dance.
On the zoo train.
It was nice to have this day to relax in Utah since we made it there early!

On Friday morning my mom took Ava and I to Gardner Village to see the fairy display they have.
The fairy gardens were so cute!

In the afternoon, it was time to leave again. Bob and Tammy drove our truck for us (nicest thing in the world!) and Brent, the kids, and I drove in Bob's car. We drove up to Boise where we stayed with a family friend.

The next morning, Saturday, we drove all the way to Eugene.

Here's a video of how the whole car ride went:
Kidding! After a little bit, the car ride looked like this:

But really overall our kids are great travelers. It just takes lots of snacks and movies to keep them happy!

As soon as we drove over the border into Oregon it suddenly got green.

The drive along the Columbia River was gorgeous. I kept taking pictures!

We made it to our new house around 6 pm. Boy were we excited to make it here in one piece!

The kids were super excited to be out of the car. Here's a video of them right after arriving at the house:
Empty new house! Our friends that Brent had left a key with in April stopped by that morning to leave us cinnamon rolls and a Welcome Home sign- see them on the counter? So nice!
We had lots of ward members come to help unload the truck while one of my new friends and I took our kids to play at the park to be out of the way.

We got home and the kids entertained themselves.
The movies ended up in a huge pile in our bedroom. It took Brent literally a whole week to sort through them and put them all away! He scooted the movies to the side and we were able to sleep in our house the first night.
On Sunday we went to church and met our ward. And unpacked! It was so nice to have Bob and Tammy here to help with the kids and unpacking. And on Monday, look what Bob just whipped out- the fence on the front part of the yard so that we can let the kids run free in the backyard.
We went to dinner and then took them to Brent's campus.
Our new house! It's perfect for us.
This is the view from the kids' bedroom.
Overalls baby.
Bike rides to our mail box which is about four houses down the road. Notice the protected grasslands in the background which are so beautiful.
Here's the kids' bedroom all put away.

Coen does the cheesiest smiles when I ask him to smile. Here's a video:

On Mother's Day I felt a little sad because I was missing Texas. It's just hard to start over, you know?
We went on a drive to the area just west of our house and it was so beautiful, it helped cheer me up!

Family selfie in front of our new house.

Something I like about our neighborhood is that despite/(because?) people have such tiny yards, they take such great care of them! Everyone has beautiful flowers all over.
Here's a neighbor's yard:
Next year's project is to add a little color to our yard. It's fun to have our own house to be able to do these kind of things!
